What started as an after-school club has grown to become a hugely positive influence on Benson’s student population. Under the direction of Amy Barras, Benson’s HealthCorps program has broadened students’ health and physical education knowledge through efforts such as after-school healthy cooking classes, introducing students to the benefits of home-grown fruits and vegetables and encouraging students to integrate physical exercise in their daily routines.
The Oregonian is reporting that the Nike Employee Grant Fund, which is administered by the Oregon Community Foundation, has awarded Benson a $20,000 grant to promote physical health. Read more about it over at the Oregonian.
