This is a great honor for Benson and it’s the first time a Portland Public School has hosted a robotics championship. Two of Benson’s robotics teams will be competing along with 46 other teams from throughout Oregon and SW Washington. Teams in this year’s championship tournament will be divided into two divisions, with the divisions honoring the names of two famous engineers with Portland connections: the late Howard Vollum, Tektronix co-founder, and Gordon Moore, Intel co-founder. Members of the families of these engineers will be special guests. The program is supported by most of the big names in local high-tech: Tektronix, Intel, IBM, Mentor Graphics, etc. There will also be representatives from many of these companies present to introduce or award winning teams.
We invite all Benson alumni to attend the tournament on Sunday and cheer on Benson’s teams. There is also a need for volunteers at this event. If you would like to help out, please click here to sign up as a volunteer. Any assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated. Helping these young students is very rewarding; seeing their enthusiasm and pride in what they have designed and build is priceless.
